Water filter cartridge is a consumable part among kinds of water filtration products. It is a well-known period that the filter cartridges need to be replaced every 6 months. And for some specific purifiers and systems, the lifetime may be longer or shorter. In a word, new water filter cartridge required once the flow rate is decreased.
To combine with various filtration systems, you may see kinds of water filter cartridges on the market. Some of them used for sink, some for tap and some for other water-based appliances.
RO System Water Filter Cartridges

PP sediment filter cartridge
This is the first water filter cartridge in a RO system with ability to block large particles of debris, sand, rust and gravel. To keep the quality of filtered water good, homeowners need to replace their pp sediment filter every 3 months or so based on their raw water quality and contaminant level.
Activated carbon water filter
Some impurities in water are visible while some others are not like organisms, chemicals, residual of pesticides and so on. Manufacturers adopts premium activated carbon to produce carbon water filter cartridges named CTO and GAC carbon filters. Carbon filter cartridges use their pores to adsorb free chlorine, harmful heavy metals and many other particles. When all the pores run out (blocked by contaminants), it’s time to replace new carbon water filter cartridge to maintain the filtered water quality. This process usually cost about 6 months.
Well Water Filter Cartridges
Unlike PP or carbon water filter cartridge, well water filter cartridge usually has a larger filtration accuracy. Generally, contaminants in well water are bigger than tap water. By now, string wound sediment filter and pleated water filter are two choices for homeowners to filter their well water.
String water filter cartridge
just as its name implies, string water filter cartridge means the cartridge is made during a process to intertwine string center on an inner core. A main characteristic is that the filtration accuracy is easily controlled by changing the string patterns of the filter cartridge. That makes the filter cartridge easily deal with kinds of impurities and contaminants in both tap water and well water. Usually the string wound water filter cartridge can last for 4 to 6 months based on contaminant level of water source.
Pleated water filter cartridge
This is an optimal water filter cartridge designed for well water filtration system. There are many gaps and grooves on the surface of pleated water filter cartridge which lets the cartridge easily capture and intercept large particles in well water like gravel and sand. Moreover, pleated water filter cartridge can be easily rinsed for reuse. Washable design let it can be used for 6 months or longer.
