1 stage: string wound sediment filter or carbon block whole house filter cartridge will be fine to intercept most of impurities. String wound cartridge filters sand, rust, debris and carbon block filter reduce Chlorine, pesticide, herbicide and more of harmful heavy metals as well as chemicals.
2 stage: Pleated filter cartridges and granular carbon filters are recommended. Pleated filter used at the first stage and granular carbon filter used at the second stage. Like the first stage, this whole house water filter combo mainly reduce large particles (pleated filter cartridges); Chlorine, heavy metals and chemicals (granular carbon filters).
3 stage: This stage is the most universal in whole house water filter systems. The three cartridges for 3 stage whole house water filters respectively are PP spun sediment filter (deal with sand and rust), string wound sediment filters (intercept debris and other particles) and carbon block water filter (filter Chlorine, Heavy metal and chemicals)
